Towards a more stable, unified region

About the Alliance for Metropolitan Stability

The Alliance for Metropolitan Stability is a broad coalition of 20 faith-based, social justice, and environmental organizations advocating for public policies that promote community reinvestment and responsible land-use in the metropolitan area.  Founded in 1994, our coalition amplifies the many voices calling for regional equity by linking groups and issues that have not been traditionally viewed as interdependent.

The Alliance is based on the understanding that true stability for the Twin Cities metro area can only be achieved through a comprehensive approach to regional problems. The Alliance has a particular interest in eliminating social and economic barriers for low-income people and people of color.

The goal of the coalition is to expand the base of organizational and public support for regional reforms related to:

  • affordable housing
  • access to public transit
  • racial and economic justice
  • land-use planning
  • economic development
  • inner city revitalization
  • and the harmful environmental consequences of sprawling growth

By working in partnership with dozens of other grass roots organizations, individuals, policy makers, and interest groups, the Alliance draws together various constituencies to focus on regional level challenges.  Acting as a facilitator and a catalyst for our member organizations, the Alliance  identifies regional issues within a local context and coordinates organizing and educational campaigns.
